Meet Big Blue Barry
Imagine a steel cage match in Rupp Arena between Sevendust, Coldplay, and Foo Fighters, with Joe Satriani as the referee. That’s the essence of Barry French’s sound as Big Blue Barry, an artist whose music strikes a balance between catchy and sometimes intense riffs while also striving for melodic depth. Barry began his musical journey as a drummer in his local church, and today he still plays drums as part of the worship team. However, his focus on original music now lies in creating music for film, television, and unique studio projects.
Though he doesn't perform live under Big Blue Barry, Barry channels his creativity into two studio projects: Big Blue Shoes, a pop/rock/alternative group, and Crushing Gray, a hard rock/metal band. Both projects allow him to explore different sonic territories, capturing the energy and emotion of live performance from the studio.
As a composer, Barry’s first major break came with multiple co-writes for independent artist Eowyn, produced by Grammy-nominated Travis Wyrick. The single "Silent Screams" reached #17 on the National Rock and Christian Rock charts. Since signing his first publishing deal in 2009, Barry started gaining success in sync music with placements ranging from The Oprah Winfrey Show, Duck Dynasty (A&E), and Catfish (MTV) to The Voice (NBC), 48 Hours (CBS), and the NFL on FOX. His talents have also led to main title themes for shows like In The Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman , It’s A Brad, Brad World, and Don't Trust Andrew Mayne.
Barry is grateful for the chance to reach audiences through his music. Whether it's in the background of a television show or a song crafted in the studio, his goal remains the same - to create something that will serve the scene and that resonates with the listener.
